No, copyright exists automatically upon creation, but registration provides legal evidence in case of disputes. 

How long does copyright last?

Generally, for literary and artistic works, it lasts for 60 years from the author's death. 

Can I copyright a business idea?

No, ideas cannot be copyrighted. Only the expression of an idea (like a script, code, or design) can be protected.
